to Adtoniq for Publishers

Adtoniq’s new direct-buy platform provides a brand-safe, permission-based way for publishers to monetize their ad blocked audiences.


How it works

Adtoniq works with premium publishers to gain access to their ad blocked audiences. We work directly with advertisers to bring you new campaigns and support your existing direct-buy customers.

Publishers install Adtoniq software, which connects with our proprietary servers to run digital ad campaigns. When an ad block user visits an integrated website, they see a customizable message inviting them to support the website by opting in to a small number of highly vetted ads, while leaving their ad blocker enabled. On average, 20-40% of ad block users opt in.

Only users with an ad blocker turned on will see this dismissible message, and only after they’ve given permission.

Our direct-buy ad platform technology

Here are the are four key components to successfully unlocking your ad-blocked audience:

  1. Server-to-server integration
    We must integrate at the server level in order to properly bypass ad blockers. We have built an API to easily accomplish this securely and with the ability to customize for your needs.
  2. Detection
    Most solutions do not currently measure ad blockers because external javascript such as Google Analytics also gets blocked. We have created a sophisticated method of bypassing those barriers to accurately measure rates, using techniques such as polymorphic script encryption.
  3. Permission
    We create a fully customizable banner message that appears on your website only after detecting the presence of an ad blocker. The message  asks the user for permission to show a streamlined ad experience in order to support the publication. You can see a demo of our platform here.
  4. Enable Ads
    We use a number of techniques including server randomization and filter-list monitoring to bypass the user’s ad blocker without them having to turn it off or adjust their whitelist.


Publisher/Adtoniq Integration

Integrating with Adtoniq is a fairly simple process, even on complex publisher websites. We expect the workload on your end to be between 1-4 hours for initial implementation, and one day of testing and customization from Adtoniq. Every publisher we have worked with so far has had a highly customized and sophisticated technology stack, but we have had no issues with rapid implementation.

Our Ad Block Rate Measurement Tool

We have spent years refining our measurement tactics because ad blockers not only block ads, but also the vast majority of tools required to properly measure your traffic. To make matters worse, your average ad block rate hides the fact that premium demographics, which are the most sought after by premium advertisers, use ad blockers at higher rates than others.

If you’d like, you can install our ABR Measurement Tool. Installation is a simple process of placing an HTML code snippet in the body of all pages on your site.

No ad stack reactivation

Unlike whitelisting, Adtoniq technology does not reactivate your existing ad stack. We evaluate your ad sizes and placements, adjust for an ad -blocked audience (no popups or rollovers) and then we automatically rebuild those units using our software. We then serve ads from our network, which can be restricted to only certain direct-buy clients and/or our network partners.


Minimal impact on site load time

After implementing the simple server- to- server integration, Adtoniq will inject ~18K of JavaScript into your website, which will have no impact on users without ad blockers, and un-noticeable impact on ad block users. This JavaScript manages the permission messaging as well as the single cookie we use to remember a user’s choice.



We provide a preview mode within our software that allows for all necessary parties to review and test our software on your staging servers, or on live sites, with a few simple query parameters. Once browser and ad blocker testing are complete, we switch to “live” mode and begin monetizing your ad blocked audiences.

During the integration and testing phase, we set up your team in one of our Slack channels for rapid communication and response.


Permission is the path forward for brand safety

The current ad block crisis is heading for a dead end. Whitelisting and forcing ads fails to recognize the reasons people choose to use ad blockers in the first place. Consumers have recognized that they have the power to accept or reject any advertising practice, and as they exercise this power, old advertising techniques fail.

We see permission-based advertising as the new path forward, and have spent several years refining our proprietary technology to accomplish this in a brand-safe, consumer-friendly way. Our results speak for themselves.
